One of the most common questions we hear at GswCorgis is,
“How big will my Corgi get?”
It's a great question—especially for families preparing for life with one of these small-but-mighty companions.
📏 Height & Length
The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is a small breed with a long, low profile. On average they are generally:
Height: 10–12 inches at the shoulder
Length: Longer than they are tall—Corgis are known for their signature “loaf” shape!
⚖️ Weight Range
Healthy adult weights typically fall within:
Males: 25–30 lbs.
Females: 22–28 lbs.
But keep in mind every dog is unique, but Corgis should maintain a lean, athletic build—not round or roly-poly, despite how cute that might look!
🐶 Growth Expectations
8 weeks: ~5–7 lbs
4 months: ~12–15 lbs
6 months: ~17–20 lbs
Most Corgis reach their full height by around 1 year of age, but they may continue to fill out slightly until about 18–24 months.
Why Weight Matters with Corgis
🦴 Their Structure Is Unique
Corgis have long backs and short, sturdy legs. This unique build makes them more vulnerable to back and joint issues—Excess weight puts additional strain on their spine, increasing the risk of injury or discomfort.
🐾 Extra Weight, Extra Wear
Even a few extra pounds can be hard on their small frames.
Overweight Corgis are more likely to develop:
Hip and elbow issues
Arthritis
Limited mobility
Shortened lifespans
